The image is printed with archival ink and measures 7”x7” on 12”x12” fade resistant blue paper. I carved the block using a small painting I made as a reference. I inked and printed it in my San Francisco studio space on my table top relief press. Each print is signed and numbered in pencil below the image. This is my annual zodiac animal woodcut. It features a snake moving on from its old shed skin into a new fresh phase. Leaving behind what is no longer needed and going forward clean and unburdened. The maze like aspect of the snake is borrowed from the Japanese mon for Lightning. This year is the year of the water snake, water elements can be associated with weather patterns. I carved the wood block, cut the paper, mixed the ink and printed this image in San Francisco, California. Woodcut print.
